    ‘Ballyard’ Connemara Ponies loosely began about 14yrs ago with the purchase of one mare at Clifden Mart. A travelling companion/short term comrade was cheaply bought to fill the box going home. This took the form of a small weanling colt who figured very quietly in the bidding. Three years later and it was a very different sort of pony that stepped out of the trailer at Rockmount one spring day. He passed the Stallion inspection easily and impressed all there. Over the years mares were bought, sold, traded and bred; so that there are now several splendid broodmares. Hence we always have young stock for sale, along with the occasional mare in foal. 
          Ballyard Prince is still with us nearly 14years later, and has been very successful in every way.  LOCATION---- The ponies are kept in about 3 different land parcels in the Cappagh area of West Waterford, according to age, state of pregnancy and energy requirements. The stallion stands at Scart Sergeant stud, and the expecting mares are bought up there every spring. While other stock is divided between 2 other land parcels for winter and summer periods.
